Purpose. Classification and description of the influence of factors of a social nature to the emergence of a criminal act in order to prevent and combat the Commission of the offence. Methods and methodology. Used scientific methods of research (retrospective analysis, comparative-legal, formal-logical, sociological). Results. This paper presents an analysis of the impact of social conditions on the formation and the perpetration of criminal behavior. The author generalized the theories of researchers on the relationship of personality characteristics and social phenomena with criminal acts.

Purpose: to study basic methods of identifying unsolved cases. Methods and Methodology: general scientifi c methods (retrospective analysis, comparative-legal, formal-logical, sociological) have been used in the research. Results: current causes of undetected crimes are examined. The dependence of the level of latency of committed crimes on personal characteristics of both crime victims and offi cers of the state law enforcement bodies is revealed. The author draws particular attention to the analysis of the causes of latent crime in the Republic of Dagestan.

Purpose: to study specific features of formation and development of the Western countries’ methods and ways of crime combatting. Methods and methodology: general scientific research methods (retrospective analysis, comparative legal, formal-logical, sociological) are used. Results: historical overview of the concepts and theories of criminology is provided. Various strategies to combat criminal phenomena of ancient and medieval states are described. The research reveals the dependence of crime combatting tools of the state and society on the traditional national religion, public morals, customs, dominating political and economic system and the level of scientific and technical development.
