Comparative characteristics of "management-is science" metaphorical model in the Russian and Anglo-American managerial discourse

Abstract

Purpose. The purpose is revealing the specifi cs of parallelism of one of the dominant metaphorical models "Management is science" on the basis of comparison of the Anglo-American and Russian managerial discourse. Methods. A complex of methods typical for the contemporary anthropocentric linguistics has been used to address the specific tasks of the provided cognitive-discursive study: cognitive modeling, discourse analysis, comparative analysis which considered the national peculiarities of languages and cultures, as well as quantitative processing of the obtained materials. The metaphors have been selected through continuous sampling. Results and practical importance. In the course of the research new evidence has been found of both national originality of the Russian and Anglo-American metaphorical managerial picture of the world and of general trends in the development of international managerial discourse. The research findings can be applied in the practice of bilingual lexicography, in teaching a foreign language to students specializing in management and cross-cultural communication. Scientific novelty. This paper is devoted to revealing the specific features, identification and comparative description of the metaphorical model "Management is science" in the Russian and Anglo-American managerial texts.
