Abstract
ntroduction. This article deals with the issues of ethno-confessional interaction between migrants and local citizens when clashes of traditions and confessional attitudes become a source of conflict and threaten the preservation of ethno-confessional peace in Russia.
Materials and methods. Empirical methods of collecting and analyzing factual data and a socio-typological approach were used. Numerous examples were considered using the case analysis method. To analyze various types of conflict interaction between migrants and locals, case method was used.
Results. Due to the diverse inter-ethnic and inter-confessional relations the following types of conflict interaction between migrants and the local population in the Russian territory can be identified: interethnic, inter- and intra-confessional. Interethnic conflicts between migrants and the local population are particularly acute among teenagers. Examples of each type of conflicts from different regions of the country are given. Discussion. Over centuries, the RF nations got used to peaceful coexistence based on respect for the national and religious customs of their neighbours. At the same time, it is necessary to note obvious contradictions between the Orthodox autochthonous population and migrants of various confessions. In this case, the conflict is getting the features of an interreligious clash. This is also facilitated by members of ethnic diasporas, who are turning into a separate influential structure. Ethno-confessional conflicts are particularly acute when they are not only between representatives of different faiths but also of the same denomination when migrants and locals with different interpretations of religious doctrine and different national traditions clash in the same territory.
Conclusion. State and municipal government bodies are required to take serious preventive measures to ensure conflict-free coexistence of the peoples of Russia. To resolve the existing social conflict between migrants and the local population, it is necessary to set up a special government authority to deal with the problem comprehensively.
