Purpose. The article analyzes the scientific literature, created by historians emigrants of 1920-1930 and on the legal basis of Ukraine's joining to Russia, as well as the problem of formation of serfdom in the Ukraine. Methods. Based on the principles of the system approach, the author uses the methods of comparative-historical and critical analysis. Results and scientific innovation. The author discusses the Ukrainian statehood on the basis of Ukrainian study researches historians, considered aspects of the formation and self-determination of the Ukrainian people.
