Purpose. The article is devoted to sociological analysis of the essence of civil control, its role in modern society. Methods. In the theoretical analysis, study of social environment of modern Russia the authors identified essential differences in identification of public and civil control from the point of view of sociological knowledge. Scientific novelty and results. The authors analyzed the functions of organizations, which activity character is identified as public or civil, carried out their systematization. The authors propose a system of empirical sociological indicators for further study of civil control within the framework of sociology of management.
